MURRAY HODGSON Hello, my name is Murray Hodgson and I am delighted to be the Head of School at this unique school. I spent the last 19 years working at an International school in Jakarta. Prior to this I worked in South Korea and Australia. I have a Masters Degree in Curriculum Development from Michigan State University (USA) and a Bachelor's Degree in Educational Administration from Deakin University, Victoria, Australia. I am passionate about ensuring education is relevant and engaging for all students. I am passionate about students developing essential life skills, including the ability to effectively communicate, reflect, create, take risks and contribute to the community. I enjoy running and team sports like soccer, volleyball and cricket. It is an honour to be living in Indonesia and supporting the SBB community.
TERESA FRY Hello everyone. I am Teresa Fry, and most people call me Ms. T or, here in Indonesia, Ibu T.
I am delighted to work as a Primary Principal at the Raya Ketimus campus. I love working with children and have dedicated my career to ensuring that school is a safe, happy place and that learning is fully engaging for all students. I believe in working together as a school and parent community to create a healthy social-emotional environment that supports the well-being of all our students, faculty and families. I have been a school teacher and school leader for over 30 years, starting my career in Western Canada for the first 20 years and then shifting to work in international schools in Bangladesh, Thailand, Nigeria, Brazil and Romania and now here in beautiful Indonesia. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Victoria, Canada, a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Gonzaga University Spokane, Washington, USA, and I am currently working on completing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Pacific University Forest Grove, Oregon, USA. I have two lovely sons, my youngest is attending university in Canada studying accounting, and my oldest has completed a master's in engineering and is working in Vancouver, Canada.

HERMAN HABIBI: Dear all, I am Habibi. I am currently the Principal of Sekolah Buin Batu. I have taught at Primary level and I was formerly the Deputy Principal and IB-Primary Years Program Coordinator . I graduated from the University of Mataram, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, majoring in English Education. I graduated in 2005 then started my South East Asia travelling journey. I have been here for 10 years and love the life challenges that I have experienced. I am continually developing my point of view and keep being courageous in making positive changes in my life. MARIA SUSWANTI RAHAYU: Hello everyone, I am Maria Suswanti Rahayu, but my friends call me either Rea or Ria. I am from Malang, but I was born in the southeast city of East Java called Tulungagung. Working in the middle of Sumbawa’s jungle is such a blessing, as it is surrounded by wonderful nature such as trees and gorgeous beaches.I have been an educator of Early childhood students in Sekolah Buin Batu since 2005. I teach the 3-4 year old learners in Playgroup nowadays. Teaching young learners can be quite challenging but they always make my day. I love my profession along with loving my students. Teaching young learners is my passion.I graduated from Malang University majoring in English Literature and certified to be early childhood educator by the government in certification program. Creating fun, meaningful, and holistic learning to achieve the learning aspect of early childhood education goals are my responsibilities in SBB. Before I landed in this beautiful Island of Sumbawa, I worked in educational institutions such as, IEC and UNMER in Malang.I’m an ordinary woman who is married to an extraordinary man and have two beautiful little girls. ARIEF BUDIMAN: Hi everyone,I’m Arief Budiman.. I’m a Primary teacher and also the PYP coordinator in Sekolah Buin Batu. I graduated from Mataram University majoring Teacher Training Education focusing on English Teaching and Learning. I have been working for 7 years in SBB. Before I came to work here at SBB, I worked for a number of educational institutions in Sumbawa Besar. These included teaching the Smart English course, as well as teaching in National Primary and Secondary schools. I’m married and have two children. I really enjoy sports and outdoor activities. For me, education is giving opportunities for children to explore themselves and the world around them.
MICHAEL DELANEY: Hello, I am Michael Delaney and I come from Rye, near Melbourne, Australia. I am very excited to be joining the staff at Sekolah Buin Batu to implement Design into the curriculum.
I have a Bachelor of Education degree gained from Deakin University in Australia and have worked at Mornington Secondary College for nearly fifteen years where I was the Head of Arts for the school.
I am a keen surfer and traveller and these interests have taken me to many remote locations throughout Indonesia over numerous visits over the last thirty years. I look forward to meeting the staff, parents and students who are a part of the wonderful community at SBB
ARDY WIDYARSO: Hi everyone. I'm Ardy Widyarso, and most people call me Ardy. I enjoy working as a teacher at SBB teaching students in Geography and World History for SMA. I enjoy working with children. I have been a teacher and taught at the elementary level for 6 years, at the junior high school level for 6 years, at the high school level for 16 years and teaching at the university for 5 years. I have a Bachelor of Education degree from Satya Wacana Christian University, Salatiga and Training in School Management at Tsukuba University, Japan for 2 years. I obtained professional educator certificates from Cendrawasih University, Jayapura and Indonesian Education University, (UPI), Bandung. I have two sons, the eldest has just graduated from Hotel Management and the youngest is in the process of completing her bachelor's degree in English. I look forward to meeting all the students and their families.
Frances Foyle: Hello everyone! My name is Frances but everyone calls me "Frankie". I was born and raised near San Diego, California in the United States. I will be the new School Wide Librarian and I am very excited to develop and expand the current library and research curriculum. I started in education as a 4th grade Teacher in Texas, then earned my Masters Degree in Library & Information Science from the University of Houston. I have been a School Librarian for 17 years at all three school levels. I have worked internationally in Jeju, South Korea and Munich, Germany. Most recently, I worked for Mann Library at Cornell University in New York while spending time with my daughter who is in graduate school studying dairy cows. I love to scuba dive, golf, swim, water ski, snow ski, play various sports, travel and read, of course! .
Martina de Glopper Hello everyone. My name is Martina de Glopper. I’m from the Netherlands.
I am very excited to join Sekolah Buin Batu as Diploma Program Coordinator and support the school in the next step towards an IB education.
I started my career in the Netherlands in a school for special education needs. My first international school experience was in Yogyakarta (YIS). I worked in China (UISZ), India (Woodstock) and Bali (BIS) in various roles such as DP Coordinator, Extended essay coordinator, I’ve taught MYP individuals & societies, supervised personal projects, taught DP history, DP Global politics and Theory of Knowledge. Outside my work for the school I’m accredited as a school visitor for the council of international schools (CIS). I have a master degree in cultural economics from the Erasmus university, I have a bachelor in social work and a bachelor in history education.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking as well as traveling and I’m looking forward to explore the eastern parts of this beautiful archipelago further. I will be bringing my partner and cats to townsite soon.

Alongside my husband and two children, Ryker in Kindy A and Cooper in Year 9, we've embraced living in Indonesia, exploring its islands and enjoying the beautiful sunsets. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, indulging in a good book, and spending time with family.
LALE DWI SETIYAWIYATNI: My name is Lale Dwi Setiyawiyatni. I am Year 1 homeroom teacher. I graduated from the faculty of teacher training and education at Mataram University. I have been working at Sekolah Buin Batu for 8 years. Before joining Sekolah Buin Batu, I worked at a primary school in Central Lombok. I have a son named Lalu Mas Djohan Bachtiar. I enjoy reading good novels and exploring the culinary world by experimenting with new recipes. For me, teaching is not just about passing on knowledge to students, but providing the tools that help them build their own thoughts.
DHARA ZAZILA: Hi everyone. My name is Dharazatun Zazila, you can call me Dhara. I was born in Jogjakarta and grew up in West Java. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, majoring in French literature from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). Before working in SBB, I taught the Indonesian Language for foreigners at Realia Language and Culture and Martabe gold mine in Tapanuli Sumatera. MBM ROSA DELIMA TANLAIN: Hi everyone! My name is Rosa. I’m currently teaching in kindergarten. I have a bachelor degree in Psychology from Sanata Dharma University Jogjakarta. Before moving to Sumbawa, I worked at Pelangi Indonesia School in Jogjakarta for 3 years, 1 year as a teacher and my last two years as the school’s principal. I have also worked for LSPPA (Institute of woman and child development), a non-governmental organization in Jogjakarta who support women and children with specific issues and problems. I believe that the first five years of a child’s life are fundamentally important. They are the foundation years that shape the child’s future health, happiness, growth, development and learning at school, in the family, the community, and in life in general. That’s the reason why I chose to work with preschool /kindergarten children so I can apply my knowledge of child developmental psychology to help my students grow and reach their full emotional, social and psychological potential. Living in Sumbawa provides for me a lot of opportunities to enjoy my hobbies. I like to travel around Indonesia, experiencing the local art, culture and beautiful nature. Hi Everyone. My name is Harto. I am married with 3 children. I was studied at UNJ majoring in early childhood education and currently I'm studying at UNINDRA majoring in English Education. I have been working as a kindergarten teacher since 2015. As a kindergarten teacher, I set up lesson materials and created an enjoyable and interesting learning environment. This is the first time for me to teach in Sumbawa and I like it because SBB is Surrounded by beautiful green nature and very cool air. NURHIDAYATUL MILLAH: Hello, my name is Nurhidayatul Millah. I prefer to be called Milla. I have been teaching at Sekolah Buin Batu since October 2004. I graduated from the English literature department of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta in 2004. Before teaching at Sekolah Buin Batu, I taught in SD Negeri Bhayangkara 1, as an English teacher for 1 year .I was born and spent my teenager years in Bima, which is on the eastern part of Sumbawa Island. I moved to Yogyakarta to continue my studies. I am married to M Muhtar Jamali and have 2 sons, named Rayyan Ahmad Zainardhi and Muhammad Wafiyyan Daffa. I usually spend my leisure activities cooking and playing with my sons. My teaching philosophy is teaching is like planting a seed in the garden. We take care of each stage and watch the seeds grow and bloom into a beautiful garden.
Merin Young Hello, everyone! I'm Merin Young Barrett, the Year 4 co-teacher, with 19 years of experience in teaching upper primary school. Originally from the USA, I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. For the past 18 years, I've been teaching in Malawi, known as 'The Warm Heart of Africa.' My goal is to foster a safe and inclusive classroom where every child's needs are met. Joining me at Sekolah Buin Batu are my husband, Dan, and our two children, Jack and Ellie. We're thrilled to engage with the community here and explore Indonesia. In my free time, I enjoy running, hiking, and traveling. I look forward to contributing to the growth and development of our students, creating a nurturing and inspiring learning environment.
INTAN FARADITA: Hi, my name is Intan Faradita, and I am proud to call Sekolah Buin Batu my new home. I have been teaching for 7 years and this will be the beginning of my 8 years of teaching. I never knew that I would become a teacher because I always wanted to become a flight attendant so I could fly around the world for free. And now I am excited to teach Y1 children this year! Even though I have grown to be what I never thought I would be, I enjoy teaching kids and helping them to learn and grow. It's always been a wonderful experience to be with kids. Their energy and cheerful hearts are very contagious. I went to Satya Wacana Christian University, Salatiga for my undergraduate study. I have a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature (English Education). When I am not teaching, I enjoy singing, making music, playing the instruments (I can do guitar, piano, ukulele, but never been a pro), and cooking. I also love to go out in nature, enjoying the breeze under thousands of trees. I lived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, teaching underprivileged kids ages 7-12 in the suburbs and helping the school to raise funds. Even though it was a very challenging situation teaching in the suburbs, because of the lack of resources, transportation, water, and very poor sewage facilities, it was still a wonderful experience to help students to learn, and share about many things outside their world.
ESTHER JULIUS: Selamat, my name is Esther Julius and I am from Mumbai, India. I acquired my master’s degree in education along with an Elementary Teaching certification from the College of New Jersey, USA. I have been active in the field of PYP Education for the last 15 years and my favorite grade levels to teach is the lower primary. Besides teaching in my home country, I have also taught in international schools in China. I strive to create a community of learners that nurtures this growth in a positive, fun environment. In my free time, I love traveling, reading and spending quality time with friends and family. ARIFANDIRA RAMADHANTI : Hi, people usually call me Danti or Arin. I was born in a town in Indonesia surrounded by hills and beautiful beaches. The town is called Sumbawa Besar. So, I grew up with a great view and adventure, I spent most of my life in that town and then moved to Mataram to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher by attending the English Language Teaching Program at Mataram University. I enjoy teaching at school, regardless of the age or level of students. I'm looking forward to hearing more stories from them.I like to collect books and read them during my free time. DAN DEVERE: Halo, Kia ora everyone, My name is Dan and I’m from New Zealand. I am the Grade 5 co-teacher and am really looking forward to learning with the students and inquiring about the community and the world together. I come from an international family including 11 cousins born in 7 different countries. I have been teaching internationally for the past ten years in South Korea and Japan. I have recently finished my Master’s Degree in Education Practice. Before I was a teacher I came from a health and fitness background. I love to play and watch sports, especially football (soccer), golf, mountain biking, volleyball and surfing. I also enjoy music and play the guitar to relax. I am always keen to learn new things, especially languages and am really looking forward to learning Bahasa Indonesia.
FARIAL: Assalamu’alaikum! Hi, my name is Farial, my full name is Farial Badawi. I am a Sumbawanese mixture: Arabian and Sumbawa. I am currently teaching in Year 6 as a homeroom teacher. I am an electrical engineer. I graduated from the Engineering Faculty in Mataram University. Later I switched to teaching because I like English and really enjoy teaching. It gives me great satisfaction to see that through my help students gain new understandings.
Before SBB I worked in ASM Mataram as an lecturer, later I moved to Sumbawa to teach in SMEA Mercury. Then, in July 2009, I joined the SBB community. I have a husband, Nazim Rajab and we are blessed with 2 children; a daughter named Rania Azura and a son named Muhammad Razan. Some of my hobbies are reading, watching movie and travelling. Even though I am busy with my work, I always try to spend quality time with my family, especially my two young children. So, that even though I am not able to stay with them all the time, they can always feel my presence close to them, helping them them to grow, learn and inquire about new things.
MARIE DANIELS: Hello Everyone! My name is Marie. I pronounce it Mu-Ree, but I do not mind if you call me Mary, or Merry or anything that is comfortable for you. I teach Year One. I was born in New York, but I spent most of my early years on Galveston Island in Texas. I have an Associates Degree in Elementary Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from birth to 12th grade with a concentration in Earth Science and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology. This is my first teaching position outside of the United States. For the last 5 years I taught science as a Specialist Teacher in New York. I taught students from three years old to 18 years old there. I have two children, my son lives in the Caribbean on the island of St,John and my daughter is attending Yale University in Connecticut. I love the delicious food, beautiful mountains and beaches and friendly people of Indonesia and I am looking forward to learning more about Indonesia’s rich culture and history.
ANNISA RACHMA: Hi, you can call me Nisa. This year, I am co-teaching in Year 3. I was born and raised in Jakarta. I graduated from Diponegoro University, majoring in Chemistry. I am a 12 years experienced teacher who has taught in National and National Plus schools with active learning curriculums (National-Sekolah Alam curriculum, HighScope Curriculum, and IB Curriculum). I like building a good relationship with my students and their parents. I understand that every student is unique, so I have to create a characterized and meaningful learning experience. Besides teaching, I like to spend my time on listening to music, watching movies and running (I love trail running).
FARDIANA UTAMI: Hi, my name is Fardiana Utami, but you can call me Fera. I was born in Mataram, but my parents come from Bali and Jogja. I spent most of my time in Mataram. I graduated from Mataram University, majoring in in Math and Science, focusing on Biology Education. After I graduated from university I came to Sekolah Buin Batu, so this is my first experience teaching at school. I am a Year 5 homeroom teacher and Biology teacher for the middle years in Sekolah Buin Batu. I have been working here for 6 years. I love teaching because I get the opportunity to constantly learn, research and improve my own skills and knowledge in the process of planning lessons. I enjoy and have fun with kids while teaching them, listening to their problems and trying to solve them in the best possible way. I am really interested in science and cooking, I like doing experiments in the laboratory and kitchen. I also love reading and shopping, such a healing hobby after work. MIKE LEWIS: Greetings, my name is Mike Lewis and it is my honor to serve as the year 3 homeroom co-teacher here at SBB. I am originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and have proudly dedicated over twelve years of my life to the field of primary/junior education. I hold a Master of Education with a focus in educational leadership studies from Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada, and a Bachelor of Education from Niagara University, Ontario, Canada. Prior to that, I earned a Bachelor of Arts with a focus in Community Studies from Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia, Canada. As a lifelong learner, I am currently completing my Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard University, online. I am also a husband and father to one and we are looking forward to becoming more involved in the community. As a passionate and experienced educator, my goal has always been to provide high-quality, diverse, and inclusive, learning platforms where students can thrive not only academically but also socially and emotionally. I am deeply grateful to be working in such a wonderful school and to be part of such an incredible community. I love engaging in outdoor activities such as golf and have been an avid hockey player since the age of four. ELIZABETH HUWAE: Hello everyone. My name is Elizabeth. I have a Bachelor's Degree of Biology Education in Pelita Harapan University and my Master's Degree from State University of Jakarta. This is my second year teaching at secondary school as I have been teaching biology in Junior High School and science in primary school for about 9 years in Jakarta. I love reading books, watching movies, and cooking in my spare time. In my view, teaching is not only to make the student get knowledge, but also to make them to be a good lifelong learner which will allow them to understand their calling, to not stop to grow and to contribute to the community wherever they may be. DINY KHAIRUL MAULIDAH: Hi, I'm Diny, I am one of an English teachers for Sekolah Buin Batu. I am supporting the beginner ESL students. I grew up in Sumbawa island and graduated from IKIP (Institute of Teacher Training and Education) Mataram, majoring in English Education in 2008. I began my teaching career in SMA 1 Jereweh. I've been working ten years in Jereweh before moving to a wonderful school, Sekolah Buin Batu. Currently, I live in Jereweh with my family, I enjoy reading, watching movies and spending time with my family and friends. I am really excited to work here with all of the staff. KURNIAWAN: Hi everyone, I am Wawan and I am very pleased to be one of the Bahasa Indonesian teachers at this amazing school. Before joining school, I was one of the language instructors at Training Department PT AMMAN who teaches Indonesian to expat employees and English to national ones. I moved to school because I wanted to expand my experience and teaching skill in different levels of education. Teaching has been my number one passion and I have been doing it for more than 10 years now. For me, sharing knowledge with other fellow teachers and my students makes me want to learn more and more about many things. Before working here, I taught mathematics at YPK school in Bangka for 4 years, at TLS school, West of Kalimantan for 1 year, then at Primagama in Tanjung Selor about 6 months. ‘Love with what you do’, is my life motto.
MARIA ALAGURU: Hello, I am Maria Alaguru and I am a middle/high school teacher with 14 years of IB and Cambridge teaching experience, besides six years in the media industry. I have taught English both as a First and Foreign Language, but also World History, critical thinking and research skills. My home country is Malaysia, so I speak Bahasa Melayu (mirip Bahasa Indonesia) and am bilingual with English, my mother tongue. I am half-Indian and half-Chinese by descent and grew up in multicultural environments, with access to many languages. For me, language acquisition is the beginning of thought, self-awareness and effective communication – to learn a new language is to create a new self and to access an entire culture(s)! To be able to explore, imagine and analyse the world through words, especially Literature, is breathtaking! I am from Polewali Mandar West Sulawesi. I have a bachelor’s degree in teaching and education majoring in Bahasa Indonesia from Al Asyariah Mandar University West Sulawesi . I have been teaching at the local high schools in West Sulawesi and South of Lombok. Just before teaching at SBB, I worked in an NGO that focused on Health and Education program in Lombok. I like to play badminton and swimming, I am trying to learn to play any kind of musical instruments in my free time . People say that the more you travel, the more things you will learn. The more places you go, the more you will know. The more you learn and know, the more you will be tolerant and the highest result of education is tolerance. So I love traveling!

LALU WIRADANA KUSUMA: Hello, my name is Lalu Wiradana Kusuma. You may call me Wira or Dana. I come from central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara and live in Labulia. I graduated from Mataram University in the end of 2011. I studied in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, in the English department. I have been working for 9 months in Sekolah Buin Batu as a teacher of elementary school. Before working in SBB, I worked for some educational institutions in Mataram and West Lombok, such as Janpau English Academy (Mataram), MTs Negeri Model Kuripan West Lombok (Junior High School), and in SDN Negeri 2 Mataram (Elementary school). I am married and have one amazing son. I love sports, both indoor and outdoor activities.
ELIZABETH BALADHAY: My name is Elizabeth Baladhay and I am the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics teacher of SBB. I was born and raised in the Philippines but I considered Indonesia as my second home after nine years working here as a teacher. My academic background is Chemistry and Education major in Mathematics. I have two masters, Diploma in Science Teaching major in Chemistry and Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management and Administration. I finished the academic requirements for Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education major in Chemistry. An opportunity to teach in China as a Chemistry teacher, Engineering Design and Further Maths lecturer of KAPLAN-US Pathway Program, affiliated by Northeastern University-USA, has started my international career. My teaching experience at Sekolah Nusa Alam has given me an in-depth knowledge of the Cambridge Science Curriculum. I was also appointed as the Cambridge Coordinator and the Examination Officer. With my capability to write and do research, I become a member of the Cambridge Press Research Panel. From then on, I have been active in developing science competencies and doing research to meet the demand of the millennial education.
SAJANA BERRY: My name is Sanjana Berry and I am from India. My journey of being an educator began five years ago as a Fellow at Teach for India (TFI). My unique experience at TFI built the foundation for my passion and interest in education. I decided to pursue a career in it and went on to join an international school in Mumbai, India. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and am a certified and licensed teacher from TEACH-NOW Graduate School of Education, U.S. I am thrilled and humbled to be taking my first step in international education at Sekolah Buin Batu as an IB MYP English Language Acquisition teacher and look forward to all the beautiful adventures the school and Indonesia have in store for me. Yoga, animals, books, travel, the sea, sunsets, photography – are a few of my favorite things. My philosophy of education is ever-evolving, but a constant theme is that I see myself as a facilitator to help my students find a balance between their intelligence, emotional and adaptability quotients and connect more deeply with themselves and the world around them.

MUHAMMAD ZAINUDDIN: My full name is Muhammad Zainuddin you can call me zain. I originally came from Lape, a town in East Sumbawa Island but I live at BTN Pegesangan Indah in the city of Mataram. I currently work at Sekolah Buin Batu, West Sumbawa as a PSPE teacher for students in pre-kindy to year 9. I’ve worked in Sekolah Buin Batu since June 2001, I really love teaching here because I love the environment and the atmosphere that this school has. Before I came here, I worked as a PSPE teacher in a senior and junior high school in Mataram for a year. I studied at IKIP Mataram and graduated in 1999. My hobbies include badminton, soccer, swimming, baseball and basketball, but I enjoy all kinds of sporting activities.
MATTHEW TAVARES: Hello Everyone, My name is Matthew and I am the music teacher for Sekolah Buin Batu from ages K-10. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts in the USA. This is my first chance to teach abroad as I have been teaching in my home city for 16 years. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have worked with many students throughout my career and have competed on both the local and national band circuits in the USA. I am very excited to work with students from Sekolah Buin Batu and I know that we will have a great music experience together. As Aristotle said, “We are what we do repeatedly, excellence is therefore not an act but a habit”. I cannot wait to make excellent music and excellent memories with your children and all of the people here at SBB. In my free time I enjoy listening to live music, golfing, walking, and sitting at the beach. I look forward to seeing and speaking to you in my many walks around townsite.
MUHAMMAD IKHWAN: Hi everyone, I am Muhammad Ikhwan. Most people always call me Iwan. I am from Sumbawa Besar. I went to The Faculty of Islam Education at IAIN Sunan Ampel Mataram. I studied there from 1992 and graduated in 1995. I have been working as an Islam lesson teacher in Sekolah Buin Batu for almost 17 years. It’s been my long amazing journey to be here for everything that I learn and enjoy. I teach in all levels of educations at SBB for my learning-teaching experiences, starting from Pre-kindy to Year 9. I am married with three children. My hobbies are sports, and watching TV with special news programs. In my mind, education is the most important thing for anyone to create the more peaceful and better world, and we must sustainably improve our world with positive actions.
PEGGY PESIK : Hello, I’m Peggy Pesik. I was born in Manado city, North Sulawesi. And I graduated from the faculty of English Education at Universitas Klabat Airmadidi Manado. Art is my passion. Before working at SBB, I was teaching Art lesson at Sekolah Citra Kasih Manado, a National Plus School by Ciputra. I also taught English lesson at English Club Bali and SD GMIM 05 Manado. Now I teach Visual Art for Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle School at Sekolah Buin Batu. My inspiration always comes from the nature. I enjoy teaching and making handmade craft, painting, drawing, writing poetry, theater, song writing, digital editing and photography. In my free time, I like swimming, traveling, exercise at the gym, reading books, and cooking. I believe as Pablo Picasso said that “Every child is an artist”. Teaching is a calling to sharing and caring. As stated in the book of 1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Encourage one another and build each other up”. And for me, learning is a lifetime activity. My goals is to encourage the students to love learning, to increase their creativity skill, and motivate them to be the best they can be.
MENTAWARA BANCIN: Hello everyone, My name is Mentawara Bancin but my friends usually call me Metha or Bancin. Bancin is one of Pakpaknese surname form Sidikalang, western North Sumatra. I was born and grew up in a plantation site in Simalungun region which has some similarities as living here in townsite of Sumbawa. I graduated from School of Foreign Language STBA Pertiwi Jakarta majoring in English Literature and I also got some Bible study and leadership training from my local church in Jakarta. I taught for 2 years in Teach Indonesia School and 6 years in Tunas Bangsa Christian School Jakarta so that I am familiar with integrated Christian curriculum that brought me here teaching Christian religion at SBB. I’ve always wanted to become a teacher since I was 10 years old. The desire has been felt and grown while babysitting, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, church youth groups, and at church camp. “The heart of education is the education of heart” is my favourite teaching philosophy. I believe that I should teach students to be not only good Christians, but also good citizens – teaching a way of life and forming their hearts. I enjoy singing and travelling. During my free time, sometimes I also enjoy teaching infant massage for parents as I am also a certified infant massage instructor.
SURIPTO: Hello all, my name is Suripto and my friends call me Ripto or Ito’. I studied at POLTEKKES Surakarta, in Central of Java. I’m from an Occupational Therapy department in my faculty, I graduated in 2001, before I began work in here. I have worked at five different schools before I worked here at Sekolah Buin Batu in Sumbawa. I have a small family with my wife and daughter. My wife’s name is Ani, she works in Madania School, Makassar. My daughters name is Nadiya, she studies at Madania School. I think this job is a good way to help students with special needs and collaborate with parents and teachers. My Teaching Philosophy is “Live just one, so see, enjoy and creative” , “Don’t think the past live and don’t think future live so be enjoy.”
ANTONIUS ANDY: Hi there! My friends call me Andy. I am the Catholic Religion teacher and IT Support in Sekolah Buin Batu. I’ve been working here since July 2010 and since then I have had various responsibilities such as: Homeroom teacher for a middle years class, ISO document controller, Year 6 Bahasa Indonesian teacher for the Academic Reinforcement program and the student choir tutor. Before coming to SBB, I worked in a book publishing company as a Chief Editor in Jogjakarta. I love Jogja, a city where I spent four years studying Philosophy and Theology. Even though it’s far away from my hometown, Konawe in South East Sulawesi, it’s still my favourite place to visit with my beloved wife and our lovely daughter. Fides quaerens intellectum. NI WAYAN KARIANI: Hi, everyone, people call me Wayan. I am the Hindu Religion Teacher at Sekolah Buin Batu. I am from Mataram. I graduated in Hindu Dharma Indonesia University Denpasar from 2009 - 2011. I started teaching at an elementary School in Mataram in 2006 - 2018 , and I started teaching at Sekolah Buin Batu School in May 2019. My hobbies are traveling and aerobics. My motto is “A Teacher is not just just doing a job but they paint the student’s future”.
ELY ANDRIANY: Hi everyone! My name is Ely Andriany, you can call me Ely. I Come from Sumbawa Besar. I graduated from Psychology at the University of Ahmad Dahlan in Yogyakarta in the Magister of Psychology Department of Clinical Child and Adolescents. In SBB I am the Student Support Team member (SST). I have been working at SBB since 2013. Before working at SBB, I worked at the Jogja Counseling Centre, Internship in RSJD Soejarwadi, Rumah Zakat and Provincial Social Service for Trauma Healing Merapi eruption victims. I also had experience in working together with School Counselors of Budi Mulia Pandean Sari and Budi Mulia Panjen. I am married to Frayudiansyah, have one daughter and one son named Nabila Az-Zahra and Muhammad Zaqwan Rabbani.
EKA KRESNAWATI : Hi Everyone, My name is Eka Kresnawati, you can call me Ibu Echa. I graduated with a Nursing Bachelor Degree from Brawijaya University, then I worked in various health facilities. I am happy working with kids from different levels, helping them to improve and optimize in growth and developing aspects. .

ANASTASIA BALELLA Hi, I am Anastasia Mendara Balella, but you can call me Ana / Anastasia. I am the Assistant Admin Manager in Sekolah Buin Batu.Before working here, I worked at Batu Hijau International School as a Teacher Assistant for 5 years and then Assistant Admin Manager since 1999 until 2008.I am married to Alphonsus Assan Kerans and we have a handsome son named Ello Kerans.I am originally from Larantuka, East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, a place that I love to visit every time I have holiday. I really enjoy spending my time with my family, traveling & collecting recipes, but I don’t like to actually do the cooking.

DAVID PARINUSSA: Hi all! I am David. I started working here in 2011 as a Religion Teacher. I enjoyed being a teacher, but then I was assigned for a new job to support the finance department in 2015. I have a Bachelor Degree of Accounting, which I got from University of Jember. Being here has given me an enriching experience, since I have met many people from all around Indonesia, and even from another countries!. I am thankful to be part of the education of young learners in this school, who I believe will be the leaders of future Indonesia. I love singing very much, along with playing music and video games. Other than that, I just enjoy family time with my wife and my wonderful son. We are happy to live in Sumbawa – it’s like being on vacation, but paid. We enjoy the beaches on this island, which we think are some of the best beaches in the world.

We have 4 children: WIDY, DWI, GHOZY and QUEEN. Before working in Sekolah Buin Batu Sumbawa, I worked in PT. Newmont Nusa Tenggara since 1995 – 1999.I like sports, such as soccer and volleyball. NURUL SYAHIDA SISWANI: Assalamualaikum. Hello! My name is Nurul Syahida Siswani. Everyone usually calls me Yuyun and I am from Mataram. I graduated from IKIP Mataram and majored in English Education. It has been a great opportunity for me to be able to join the Sekolah Buin Batu team as the School Secretary in this academic year and I feel very welcomed. I have been working in two other international standard schools before in Mataram and Ubud, Bali . Despite having a bachelor’s degree of English Education, I prefer to work in the school office as I get to learn new roles and responsibilities and face new challenges. My name is Umbu Aliwaskita, I was born in Sumbawa, but my parents come from east Java. I spent most of my time in Mataram with my wife and 5 children. I've been a part of Buin Batu School for a long time but it's only been the last 3 years that I've become part of the big Buin Batu school family. I work as a community liaison in charge of liaising the school community with schools in the mining area and also outside the mine.
